NORML Daily Audio Stash Groovin’ Thursday: Pace Won and Mr. Green – “Children Cry”

Blog December 14th, 2009

From Newark, New Jersey Pace Won and Mr. Green form the classic Hip-Hop combo of one MC and one DJ. The true skills of Hip-Hop have been lost on the surface of the music scene and unless you dig deep into the folds of the net to find what you are looking for you may never come across hardcore Hip-Hop again. (Or, in my case were lucky enough to have it sent to you.) With digital production and creation of music the art of a turntablist has been somewhat lost. Classic Hip-Hop cannot thrive without the full instruments of its trade, just like any other genre of music. The voice of the MC and his lyrics, and the DJ with his scratches and beats are the simple yet effective tools of Hip-Hop, and its hard sometimes to distinguish which one gives more to the soul of the jam. Pace Won brings you smooth lyrics and Mr. Green pounds you with the beats to bring you what is missing from today’s Hip-Hop. Classic beats and classic rhymes.

Nerdcore hip-hop is possibly one of the weirdest names for any genre of music to ever be made up. You would think the definition would entail the artists are nerds who rap. But, that’s not all true. Call an artist like mc chris Nerdcore rapper and you will probably see the gangsta’ appear more than the nerd. So, we wont put mc chris in that category.

If you’re familiar with Adult Swim on the Cartoon Network you might be familiar with mc chris’s voice and work. He has wrote for and voiced characters for numerous shows on the network including Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, and one of my all time favorites Space Ghost: Coast to Coast. mc chris has been offered numerous record deals from large and small labels, most recently ‘Psychopathic Records’ the home of I.C.P. offered mc a spot on the roster. But, they’ve all been denied by the artist as he has chosen to stay independent and has been successful in doing so. With a song named ‘Wiid’ its hard to say mc chris is not a fan of marijuana, so I just wont say it.

Persecution of an Enlightened Generation – Random Morning Thoughts

Blog November 30th, 2009

I don’t get people that say those like myself, an otherwise healthy person in my 20’s, who suffers from severe pain is abusing the Medical Marijuana system? I am livid with the most deeply rooted anger they would have me suffer, or beg a doctor for a pill that will destroy my liver. If I even took just Excedrin as much as I needed without using Marijuana I’d have organ failure before I was 30.

Denver probation says I cannot smoke Marijuana without a valid card. The wait for a card to arrive is currently 14 weeks long in Colorado. How would they suggest the system better protect those of us caught in the middle? And, those who could possibly be wronged by law enforcement while waiting on a card, while the State refuses to acknowledge Medical Marijuana is exploding and needs a bigger staff to handle the legal means by which people are allowed to use Marijuana. They certainly have an excess of $1 Million dollars from reg fees to expand the program. They are failing to operate the program in an effective way of means and I challenge them to correct it. Even one person caught up and sent to jail for a night because of a lack of physical registration card is unacceptable.

No affirmative defense in Denver probation for people like myself and no thought as to why I’m using pot but that I’m abusing it comes from these people with probation and law enforcement. My only option is to hopefully pay off the remaining fine and probation fee that has totaled almost $4,000 and petition for early release. Which I am told if I pay I should be allowed to do. I have done nothing to violate probation and have followed every last one of their rules handed to me. Including spending time with some of the worst people I have ever had the displeasure to be around, and for the rest of my life being labeled a serious criminal, and a felon. To all this we have the Drug War to thank. If you think it doesn’t affect you, you are certainly wrong. And, I challenge you to argue that educating Americans is only worth a third of what is spent on the Drug War. Doesn’t makes sense at all and it certainly affects you. Where the hell did we go so afar from the intended goals of this country that we allowed this sort of misappropriation to happen. Its mind boggling. I don’t get it and what will make these people understand? I’m fighting for the health and freedom of those like me!

Announcing New Contributors to your NORML Daily Audio Stash

Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 at 2:47 pm | By: Radical Russ

I am so excited to break the news that we have four new contributors to help bring you the Daily Audio Stash!  In response to my call for volunteer music editors I received a lot of applications and picked from the best of them to give you our new lineup:

Weekday Editor-in-Charge
Roots Monday
(Blues / Country / Folk / Jazz)
Cannabis Karri
Electric Tuesday
(Dance / New Age / House / Electronica)
Sahra Kant
Irie Wednesday
(Reggae / Ska / Calypso / Latin)
Johnny Reeferseed
Groovin’ Thursday
(Rap / Hip-Hop / R&B / Funk)
John Doe
Rockin’ Friday
(Rock / Metal / Punk / Jam)
“Radical” Russ

These fine Stashers will be finding the best 420-friendly music on the web and bringing it to us each week.  You already know me and Cannabis Karri.  Sahra Kant joins us from Massachusetts; I met her up at the Boston Freedom Rally this year.  Johnny Reeferseed’s music has been featured on the Stash before.  And John Doe is the man behind John Doe Radio, another fine internet podcast.

But just because we have music editors that doesn’t mean you can’t still be involved.  If you have a band or have found a tune that you think should be on the Stash, just email it to me at stash@norml.org and I’ll pass it along to our editors.

Also join me in welcoming Amanda Bannon to our lienup of contributors.  Amanda is getting college credit as an intern working for me in NORML Chapter Outreach.  She will begin by reviving our dormant “Politicians on Pot” series, where you send us the replies you get from your elected officials when you write to them about ending marijuana prohibition.  If you haven’t written to your elected officials, visit our Take Action center and get started.  Now that the AMA has reversed its position on smoked cannabis as medicine, many of these congresspeople will need to update their form letter!  Write your congressperson and send that reply back to us at stash@norml.org.

AMA Calls for Review of Medical Marijuana’s Legal Status

AMA Calls for Review of Medical Marijuana’s Legal Status

New Policy Marks Historic Shift From Prior Stance

CONTACT: Bruce Mirken, MPP director of communications …………… 415-585-6404 or 202-215-4205

HOUSTON, TEXAS — In a move considered historic by supporters of medical marijuana, the American Medical Association’s House of Delegates today adopted a new policy position calling for the review of marijuana’s status as a Schedule I drug in the federal Controlled Substances Act. The old language in Policy H-95.952 had previously recommended that “marijuana be retained in Schedule I,” which groups marijuana with drugs such as heroin, LSD and PCP that are deemed to have no accepted medical uses and to be unsafe for use even under medical supervision.

The revised policy, adopted today, states, “Our AMA urges that marijuana’s status as a federal Schedule I controlled substance be reviewed with the goal of facilitating the conduct of clinical research and development of cannabinoid-based medicines, and alternate delivery methods.” It goes on to explain that this position should not be construed as an endorsement of state medical marijuana programs.

“This shift, coming from what has historically been America’s most cautious and conservative major medical organization, is historic,” said Aaron Houston, director of government relations for the Marijuana Policy Project, who attended the AMA meeting. “Marijuana’s Schedule I status is not just scientifically untenable, given the wealth of recent data showing it to be both safe and effective for chronic pain and other conditions, but it’s been a major obstacle to needed research.”

Drugs listed in Schedule II, for which medical use is permitted with strict controls, include cocaine, morphine and methamphetamine. A pill containing THC, the component responsible for marijuana’s “high,” is classed in Schedule III, whose looser requirements allow phoned-in prescriptions.

With more than 29,000 members and 100,000 e-mail subscribers nationwide, the Marijuana Policy Project is the largest marijuana policy reform organization in the United States. MPP believes that the best way to minimize the harm associated with marijuana is to regulate marijuana in a manner similar to alcohol. For more information, please visit http://MarijuanaPolicy.org.
