Merry Christmas

We wish you a Merry Christmas
and a Happy New Year!

And share an interview with NORML’s Daily Audio Stash regarding pain management and the positive effects marijuana has with it. Stash host “Radical” Russ Belville talks with Dr. Mitch Earleywine in The Stash’s week long focus on severe pain and marijuana. Its also time I renew my medical marijuana license and it reminded me of a cool interview with THC Foundation founder Paul Stanford who also is a good friend of Jack Herer. The THC Foundation in Colorado is my clinic of choice, and we re-hash an interesting early interview on JDR.

We also discuss this weeks dismissal of the #1 question on Barack Obama’s Change.org website. The question: “Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?” The transition team unfortunately gave a short answer dismissing the idea of any real chage being brought to marijuana reform at the hands of Obama.

Of Course NORML News and The Stash are included!

Repeat Repeal- We CAN Do It Again!

December 5th marked the 75th anniversary of alcohol prohibition’s repeal and LEAP was there to launch our own Repeat Repeal project.   LEAP and the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation released a report detailing how drug prohibition, like alcohol prohibition before it, perpetuates a criminal marketplace and deepens economic hardships, while increasing death, disease and addiction.    At a December 2nd, press conference announcing the report, speakers Eric Sterling (head of the Criminal Justice Policy Foundation), Tim Datig , Neill Franklin, Terry Nelson, David Otto, Richard van Wickler, and Howard Wooldridge were joined via phone by renowned Harvard economist Jeffrey Miron, who estimates that legalizing drugs would boost the economy by at least $76.8 billion a year.

Repeat Repeal has been LEAP’s biggest effort yet; it was a great way to end the year, but the best is yet to come!  In 2009, we look forward to not only the increased visibility resulting from our large-scale project, but also the equally-important presentations to civic clubs, rotaries and colleges, where our speakers connect with audiences throughout the U.S. and abroad.

We need YOUR help to continue doing all that we do.

If you aren’t already, please consider volunteering your time or donating to LEAP. Together we can End Prohibition Now!

The People and Now Science Continue to be Ignored; Obama's Top Question on Transition Site Gets 12 Word Answer

Cannabis News December 18th, 2008

Although not surprising but very disappointing the subject did not and probably will not get too much attention from the Obama administration.  Marijuana Reform was the most voted on and TOP question asked on his change.org transition site.   With a serious economic crisis going on, it’s obvious that his team and Obama himself would shrug off the issue.  But, to give a short twelve word answer to a subject that deserves incredible attention and discussion on a national level from people who dont have their head hidden somewhere dark, is still a sad reality of politics in America.

Q: “Will you consider legalizing marijuana so that the government can regulate it, tax it, put age limits on it, and create millions of new jobs and create a billion dollar industry right here in the U.S.?” S. Man, Denton

A: President-elect Obama is not in favor of the legalization of marijuana.

Although I’m sure Blago would have sold you rich tokers a spot as a lawmaker.  And to think he is the only one who has bought and sold the blood of American Partiots is naive at best.  Marijuana is still taboo, and is still looked at like a dangerous drug to those who follow the government word to the T.

Change. Now looking like just another pipe dream.

NORML points out a few more important pieces HERE about how the fight is at the local level, and where the REAL change will happen.  People like us reforming laws in cities, counties, and states.

It cant be ignored and wont stay illegal forever.  Alcohol prohibition should have taught us that.

PS-  Dont worry, be happy and enjoy your Christmas spliff.
